Does anyone know what the climbing conditions are like right now near Donner? I just saw pics of Chris Macnamara base jumping on skis off Lovers Leap, so there's obviously alot of snow still there  Is anything climbable near Tahoe? Thanks if you can help.

Sugarloaf is your best bet.

Boreal, Donner Ski Ranch, and Sugar Bowl are all still open for skiing. That'll probably give you a pretty good picture of what the snow conditions are up there.

Just go to Yosemite, the climbing conditions have been wonderful. If not, then Sugarloaf is your best bet. Anything higher is all white and cold. Sunny skies with 65 to 80 degree temps this weekend (depending on where you are)........Woohoo!

I found it on Supertopo and posted it to the Leap thread. http://www.rockclimbing.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=111737 Chris was one of only a few at the event to do it on a snowboard, which is trickier than doing it on skis. Not that I've done either. There's also a discussion of the event on dropzone.com.

I climbed at the summit today and it wasn't that bad. The road cut is fine, and so is the space wall, although the hike isn't so fun. Black wall is mostly dry, but again expect to posthole up there and bring a tarp. Water is still seeping down all the good routes at snowshed so that's a no go. good luck! in a side note, I deep snow soloed short subject today, wheee!!

Anyone know how current conditions are at Donner Summit? I'm contemplating going up there Friday-Saturday for some moderate trad- 5.6-.9. How is the snow?

Chris, I climbed at the Leap a week and a half ago and it was amazing, but I'd venture everything up there is pretty wet again now since it snowed at the summit. I'd give it another week. Of course, I'm just conjecturing because I'm in the Bay Area right now and not at home, up there. :? Colin
