Just heard this today from Dave, very sorry if this has already been posted, but I searched, didn't find it.
Dave is currently making 2 brand new hybrids to shorten the span between the red to yellow.
yellow/gray hybrid: 3/4"-7/8"
gray/red hybrid: 7/8"-1"
So now a hybrid set is 5 1/2 cams instead of 4...
I'm wondering what will happen to the yellow/red hybrid now.
Hope this is hot of the press, it was for me. :wink:

A few grey/yellow hybrids surfaced at rock and snow last summer. Im not suprised that they started making the grey/reds too, but I dont think its the greatest idea. Since the idea of a hybrid is to conform to flared cracks, the yellow/red seems to be alot more usefull than the other two sizes. They might be usefull, but I definatly dont think they should replace the yellow/red.

Do you think there is any demand for a larger hybrid? Red/Orange? Or do you think maybe the larger the size of the hyrbid the less practical it becomes.

I agree with gunks goer that the yellow/gray and gray/red seem a little too close in size - the yellow/red is a favorite of mine. The whole point of the offset is to spread the camming range over TWO sizes - While I love the gray, its "money" zone is too close to that of red. Now - that said I think the idea of 1 larger size offset is appealing. However a red / orange isn't what I would ideally want - once in the orange size the flared pin scar placement becomes less of a problem and certainly less common. I would put a down payment today on a gray/butter scotch though. That range is really a red but the flare coverage is +/- red - PERFECT! I see this all the time.

I think a gray/red offset is overkill. I like my gray, and I like my red, but I think that you should be able to get a decent red or gray in a spot that would also take a gray/red hybrid.

Not in the gunks. Maybe somewhere else...
The smaller hybrids are perfect for the thin pin scars all over the gunks, but there are fairly few places with scars that big that I know about: then again, I just started climbing moderates instead of thinner harder stuff...
