I started climbing because I figured I needed to drop a couple thousand dollars more into a sport, Hah! Actually, because my brother introduced me to the sport. I already ski and kayak-religiously and thought that rope skills would compliment both. Now all of them will be competing for time. I suppose alot of it has to do with an interaction with the elements and nature. It isn't that team sports don't interest me it is that I like being reminded who is really boss-- mothernature!

I climb, because I love the challenge. I climb for me... to better myself. It's not just physical... it's emotional, and psychological... It works you to push your limits physically and mentally.
And I love my climbing bud's, they push me further, I push them further.. we all want to see the best in each other... that's why I love it.. It's a community, a family... cheers

Lets see......Because I like to spend my money on expensive gear that gets me searched at the airport, drive 8 hours one way so I can climb at a new area for a day, and daydream about climbing........So the obvious answer is Why not

Why is such a complex question. Because I love rocks. Because when I was a kid, I climbed up and down this one mountain so many times I could run down the rocks on the way back, each rock meeting my foot. Because when I was sick in bed for two years I had a vision of rocks in the desert I'd go to when I was well. When I went to Joshua Tree, I knew I'd found that place.

I climb to challenge myself, to build my physical strength and adaptability, to be present in the moment.

I climb because it is how i release the stress that is built up inside of me.

When i am climbing nothing else in the world matters except me and the rock.

I love to climb for so many reasons: it's a personal challenge that feels so damn good when you reach the top, it relies on all kinds of skills (technique, flexibility, intelligence, imagination, strength, endurance, and more), it can be just a simple warm-up or a killer workout, you can be out in the middle of nowhere with nasty dehydrated food and no bug spray while stinking to high heaven but as long as your scrambling up real rock your loving it...it's hard to describe all the reasons and they go on and on...how about I just do?

Like a lot of people have said... when climbing your mind can be on nothing else.. and it is just pure relaxation for the mind because of it...not to mention a darn good work out!
Here's to climbing!!

My brother got me started and I've loved every minute since. It's impossible to focus on anything else when you're climbing, you're too focused on not breaking your butt. I love constantly prooving myself wrong. At least some point during a climb I"m convinced that I won't make it past a certain spot. And when I do, there's no better feeling.

I climb for me. Its both mentally and physically fulfilling. As well as something I either by myself or with friends. Its not about the sport, its about me.

its getting the gear ready the night before, little sleep with dreams of the climb interwoven. its the hike in, finding the route, putting on the harness and shoes, sorting the rack with now sweaty hands, taking the deep breath, dipping the hands in the chalk and saying on belay. its the heart pounding, the mind focused, the muscles working, and the rack clinking. its the great views, great frinds and partners, and a moment in time where nothing else matters!!

Apparently like thousands of others, I climb 'cause it's good for you and 'cause it's fun... also the thing about not having to think about anything else.

I don't even need a question to as why i climb. I do it for the adrenaline rush and it keeps me in shape, without climbing, I can picture myself a round-ass blob on the couch watching reruns of old soaps just because I'm too lazy to reach for the remote.

Climbing, for me, is a way to get away from all the stress I have to deal with at home, school and just the everyday things.

I climb because -I- want to, not because my friends do. Actually, I have lots of friends that are into climbing. But only two people love it as much as I do. And I'm grateful to have two best friends that do.

Sorry, I've gone off-topic for why I climb, to my friends. But for me, just thinking about climbing just gets me going, I get excited and my fingers tingle. And yes I've been climbing for about a year and a half, constantly, and I still get that feeling.

Now I wanna get out there and climb!!! I just have to work around my job...there's an open window nearby, maybe they won't notice I'm gone...

I climb for the very simple plearsue of it! and for the mere fact that when you do overcome that crux move, that you have been working on, you all most reach an apotheosis state. Where no one or no thing can stop you!

"What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know." — René Daumal.

At first I had suicidal tendencies and I lost a bet. I survived, I laughed, I cried, it changed me. I found spiritual fulfillment and true inner meaning. My parole officer said it would bring much-needed self esteem or rid society of a social pariah (I always wondered why he suggested my soloing some routes). I got ripped and strong and was soon able to overpower him. I've been on the lamb ever since.

Or . . .maybe . . .yeah, it's the chicks. I climb to get chicks. That and it's cheap.

Why Climb?

Because it is so entirely irrational.

(the abundance of cute boys don't hurt the sport either...) hehe

My EX-boyfriend got me started. Now I think I have more of a passion for it than he does. I think about it every day. I joined a couple of climbing groups and started bouldering more. I've been climbing for nearly three months and I'm ready to Sport lead this weekend. I can't wait. The adrenaline rush is "the bomb!!!" Climb on!!!
