teh SuperTopo book

Is the Reid guide even sold anymore?

You could start by poking around on supertopo -- here is the Yosemite 'first timers' page that Chris et al. set up. You will eventually want to buy the book. If you stay in Camp 4 you can ask around for a bouldering tour, the classics are not hard to find.

Not sure if sport climbs are covered in the Supertopo. Never done any in Yosemite, you might find that you, uh, 'run out of time' just bouldering and doing longer routes :-)

Try doing some lesser-known routes, or routes with longer approaches, for a less urban experience. Yosemite can be wild or it can be a big hassle, it's up to you on any given day. Millions of tourists concentrate on the Valley -- there's a lot more to the park than that.

The Reid book is definitely sold and it is the best "comprehensive" book. Although the Reid book has not seen a major update, in what, 15 years? Yea, they've slapped a couple of new covers on it, but no update.

Supertopo guides are excellant, but they aren't comprehensive. If you are only going to be in the valley for a short time, they are a great choice (or even if you are going to be there for a while).

But if you want a comprehensive book (and if you want to get away from the crowded climbs that supertopo will direct you to), Reid is it.

I third the Supertopo guide. The Reid guide is good if you're looking for less travelled stuff, but Supertopo covers the classics and really good stuff (or most of it). There's a good Yosemite bouldering guide available too.

Check Drtopo.com for a free bouldering guide to yosemite. The supertopo is more of a select book but all the routes are great and there is plenty to keep you busy for a very long time.

Glad to here you are still going to the valley trailtripper. Hope you have fun. Take picks, I look forward to seeing them when you return home safely. Oh, and climb like hell.
