Hi all, Just want to let everybody know that I'm officially stepping down from my role here at Rockclimbing.com, effective immediately. Now don't get all jumpy. :P I know how the timing looks. "They got to him," you might be thinkin'. "Does he not want anything to do with the new owners?" you may wonder. No and no! Actually, I resigned my position with indefinite notice almost two months ago. Originally, ddt and I wanted to time the announcement with the relaunch, but it's really starting to look like that just can't work. I'm almost out of reviews saved up and I don't want there to be a huge gap/lag/hiatus in new content. Plus, the reason for my departure, a personal project, demands more and more of my time. I've begun writing a novel -- an utterly un-climbing-related novel -- and it really does need me more than anybody here does. I was planning on discussing this with ddt this morning. The most recent drama (mostly of my own making) only postponed the official quitting until this afternoon. As of hitting submit on a post I've already made in the Mods Forum, I am no longer an RC.com volunteer. However, I will retain my admin permission for a while (maybe a week) while I tie up some loose ends, fulfill some committments and train the guy who runs the Gear Guide from now on. And speaking of that guy, he is none other than... ready for this? Vegastradguy! Yay! VTG will take over the running of the GG as soon as he and I get his training out of the way. I expect that the quality of said Guide will only increase. Folks, I've had a helluva time working for the site and I just want to say how much I look forward to continuing to shoot the shit with all of you as a normal user. It's gonna be fun to again be able to watch the drama that is RC.com unfold as a spectator rather than a participant! With fondness, Jay

Thanks Dingus. I'll still come a knockin' if I'm out that way. And if you're ever at the New, I'll be insulted if you're not crashin' at my place.

Cheers DMT What he said! :D I think it's actually been more like 3 months than 2 though, because Jay told me way back when, then made me do one of those ghey ass pinky swears that involved spit (at least that's what he said it was!) Jay, you've busted ass to maintain integrity here at RC, and I can only see things going down hill rapidly w/o you as the Co-Pilot! -Tim

So you'll still be around on the site though, right? That means you can get into the dirty with everyone else, right?

Jay, You're the man. Thanks for all your hard work around here, you really made a difference. I can't believe you didn't sink to my level, not even once! :P Best of luck with your new opportunities, and let me know if you want to get back to baffin to finish up our project. I think we've still got a case of beer hanging in a bag (that we'll probably need to thaw) as well as the blow up dolls and other sundries. Cheers, Dave

Even after I explained that it was you in the leather slave mask with the doll, he didn't think it was cool. SOme people are so uptight.

Jay, You absolutely rock. Getting to know you and working with you was a pleasure right from the start. You've been a fantastic, selfless supporter of rc.com as moderator and gear editor, and I can't thank you enough for it. What you have done for us cannot be measured. I thank you sincerely and deeply. Best wishes with you new adventure. You're welcome of course to post some chapters of the novel here as you go. I can assure you you'll get some quality feedback! DDT

Jay, I don't post much, but I often check in and browse. You have certainly earned my respect, as a moderator, and as a voice of reconcilliation and reason. I wanted to say that I certainly appreciate your efforts and contributions to this site. If you venture back into the deeper South again, pm me. I'd love to meet you and climb with you anytime. Best of luck, and take care. Patrick Barnett

In reply to: In reply to: almost forgot to ask... whats the novel about? Amish Softcore It's about a slutty Quaker girl that is hellbent on defying the traditional ways. The action really heats up when she invites the blacksmith inside for a glass of soured buttermilk, and he notices her partially exposed ankles... Now, that there is funny, I don't care who you are! Jay, you'd better PM me if you come climbing in MD again ;)

In reply to: For a second I thought you were quitting climbing, now Im just relieved. If anything, I'll climb more! Amish softcore... hehheh... Actually, it's a horror novel with deep (shallow) religious undertones (overtones). I can't say exactly what it's about, 'cause it would give away too much. Suffice to say I'm going for dark, disturbing and city-gothic. So far, so good. I have prologue and a first chapter and things are progressing slowly, hopefully now a little faster. Thank you everybody for the well wishes. I'll definitely still be around the site plenty and hopefully climbing with lots of you. And of course, now that I've admitted publicly that I'm writing a book, I have to finish it.

Dingus has expressed the feelings that, apparently, many of us share. I, certainly, have respected what you have written, both in the reviews and in the forums. Glad you're engaged in a project that excites you!
