Hi,

I live in Scotland but will be visiting Calgary for a few weeks in October and fingers crossed should get some time for a little climbing. Can anyone give tips on best places to go? I've seen websites for a few indoor places (The Crux, Stronghold, CCC) but am struggling to get much info on outdoor trad or sport routes that are still climbable at that time of year. Ta!!

I just moved to Calgary, so I don't know what is climbable in October. If you need a climbing partner though, drop me a line.

not a fuck of alot is climable in oct. the weather is pretty unpredictable,
youre best bet is yamnuska or goat mtn. if youre lucky itll be cold enuf to climb the odd bit of ice closer to jasper. but there is nothing to climb in calgary, youre an hour away from the mountains.
visit canmore and look at climbing in the bow valley not calgary.

October is hit or miss - Typically early October is fine, especially south facing or low. Late October gets a little more cold and the higher elevation ice can be in.

Definitely worth bringing gear.

Thanks for the advice... guess I'll pack the rack and hope for the best.

Cheers!
