Tesla Roadster 100% Electric, 0-60 in 4 seconds, and 130+ mph top speed. And it's pretty damn sexy, too.

I'm a little skeptical. There are no prices and no actual photographs on the website.

In reply to: I'm a little skeptical. There are no prices and no actual photographs on the website. Oh, NO YOU DON'T!!!1 I've got a vision of me driving that beast, rolling with something heavy on the bass playing through the stereo, and hot women throwing their panties at me, begging for a ride. YOU WILL NOT RUIN THIS FANTASY WITH FACTS! Hmpf.

Aha! A photo! Now I'm not so skeptical, though I am a bit disinterested. Ninety large for one of those?!

I want one of these: http://www.sportsmobile.com/z-PO_calif.html On Veggie, I could probably get about 350 miles per gallon of diesel, and the jacked up Fords are sooo sexy.

How will you be able to break land speed records with your knees in your face? :P

In reply to: YOU WILL NOT RUIN THIS FANTASY WITH FACTS! Sounds like a common theme with your postings, especially the political ones. Anywho, I'm not very impressed with the performance. Once fuel cell cars become widely available, I can guarantee the performance will beat any gas or electric car. Imagine having the horsepower of a gasoline engine, with the traction and wheel control of 4 independent electric drive motors...and no transmission!!!

In reply to: Anywho, I'm not very impressed with the performance. Once fuel cell cars become widely available, I can guarantee the performance will beat any gas or electric car. I'll put a $100 bet that your fuel cell cars won't be able to beat this and be street legal in the next 5 years. Sack up and take the bet? And let me make sure I've got this straight: You are not impressed with the performance? 0-60 almost as fast as any gas powered car out there, but no emissions, no fossil fuel use, and environmentally friendly? It would seem that you don't know shit about cars.

fuel cells are energy storage , just like a battery (a crappy battery at that). do you know where hydrogen comes from? it takes a lot of electricity to make it. these are pretty cool: http://www.arielatom.com made by http://www.brammo.com

In reply to: Sounds like a common theme with your postings, especially the political ones. Snap! Round 1 goes to CK.
In reply to: Anywho, I'm not very impressed with the performance. Once fuel cell cars become widely available, I can guarantee the performance will beat any gas or electric car. Basing that on your extensive experience in the automotive and fuel cell industries?
In reply to: I'll put a $100 bet that your fuel cell cars won't be able to beat this and be street legal in the next 5 years. Sack up and take the bet? Round 2, and the fight, goes to reno. I'll do you one better, though. CK, I'll bet you TWO Tesla roadsters (one for me, one for the wife) that we will not see a street-legal FCV in the next 10 years that can outperform this thing and costs under $100k.
In reply to: And let me make sure I've got this straight: You are not impressed with the performance? 0-60 almost as fast as any gas powered car out there, but no emissions, no fossil fuel use, and environmentally friendly? It would seem that you don't know s--- about cars. I agree with the conclusion, but I disagree with your statement on fossil fuels - that electricity's got to come from somewhere. Most electricity in this country comes from coal and gas, I believe.

Most electricity in this country comes from coal and gas, I believe. Unless you live in an area served by a nuclear powerplant, wind power, solar power, etc. Sure, you're technically correct... MOST electricity in the US comes from fossil fuel. But I can buy one of these and never use fossil fuel... that was my point. Sorry for the confusion. And either way... it's still a sexy looking car.

In reply to: That must be a hoax, I mean, who would name a car after a hair band from the 80s? Uh! I think they both got the name from this guy. Kids don't know nuth'in any more :? http://homepage.ntlworld.com/...es/tesla/tesla_2.gif The torque curves of DC motors well well understood even when he was a kid. The curve looks more like a compound wound DC or an inverter driven AC motor though. For pure performance nothing beats a series wound DC motor though. Theoretical close to infinite torque at stall and infinite top rpm. Just give 'em enough current at stall and voltage on the high end. and make sure you are clear of smoke and flames or flyin parts. The batteries are, and always have been the problem.

In reply to: The batteries are, and always have been the problem. Not for that much longer, though. Almost as much capacity as a lithium ion battery, but can charge and discharge at close to 100 times the rate - close to that of a capacitor. A little more development, and they won't need any metals whatsoever. Cheap, light, efficient and environmentally friendly. Very cool stuff.
