Dog rescued from summit of Scafell

royal treatment: Prince the labrador is carried off Scafell after cutting his paw A LABRADOR had to be rescued from near the summit of Scafell Pike on Sunday after he badly cut his paws.
Prince was stretchered down the mountain by members of Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team – who interrupted their fundraising weekend when the call came in.
In extremely hot conditions, it took 13 team members almost five hours to complete the rescue.
Team member Richard Warren said: “It was obvious when we arrived on the scene that the rescue wouldn’t be as straight forward as we first thought.
“We had a lightweight stretcher and the dog weighed 6˝ stone so we had to take turns carrying it.
“It wasn’t easy in the heat but we got there in the end,” he said.
The owners of Prince were camping in Borrowdale on a visit from the North East.

I don't know, can one dog feed thirteen rescue workers if you cook it right? Six and a half stone is roughly one hundred pounds isn't it?

I sure hope the owners of the dog are presented with a bill covering the full costs of the rescue operation :)

I'd also like to see the dog's owners presented with a bill, but I don't think it was a waste of resources at all.

When a dumb hiker gets lost cause they got their battery on the GPS backward costing $40.000 and waste major resources for days it is okay but when a poor dog needs help we should let them die ? WTF

It's a hard call. I remember that sad day when my goldfish fell 30 feet at the crag. When I called emergencie services, all I got from the guy on the other end was, "Are you @#*$ing kidding me? Who the hell brings their goldfish climbing?" He then hung up while my poor little aquatic friend lay there dying.

No mention of owners in the article. Maybe the dog was soloing. In that case he deserves a resue as much as any other climber.

Perhaps I was too vague. I am all for rescuing fido, but there was no mention of any owners or expense. I support that they should be presented with the bill, but what if they refused up front for the rescue.
