Climbing Hardmen or Whining Poseurs?

Whatever happened to climbers being men of legendary status (tough bastards), able to withstand; the elements, extreme hardships and undaunting exposure? Did our forefathers lay around and whine about every little mishap or unfortunate event? I say NO!

This question is posed from all the whining, utterly worthless posts that have been made about stolen gear (that was actually left out or forgotten), the crying about climbers that don't help one another on mountains (when they can hardly help themselves), or the ones that want routes all to themselves but can't have it because it's too crowded, etc etc.

To all of you, I say, "shut the fuck up and climb"!

you are right. the whimpy-ness knows no bounds. Some losers even complain about seeing expensive cars in crag parking areas. can you believe it?

Why does being upset about your gear being stolen make you a whining poseur? Now falling on a route and then blaming it on the "moist holds preventing friction" makes you a bitch. Getting your gear stolen just makes you unlucky.

I don't know man! Look at the names of the routes, or route features they named:

Windy Corner:  it's too windy up here!
Snaffelhound Ledge:  the rodents ate my food!
Disappointment Cleaver:  the summit looks so far away!
Frostbite Ridge:  my fingers are turning black!

and my favorite:

Death Bivouac:  I'm pretty sure we're going to die soon!

I've never seen a "buck it up little camper ridge", or a "pain is only weakness leaving your body" pinnacle. Hmmmm......

They still exist, but most don't bother "spraying about" climbing over the web. They live in places like camp 4 or remote backpacker sites and never sugar coat anything. A few years back I met a couple of them in Yosemite. 2 guys were on a climbing trip (years long) from San Diego ... only thing is, they walked there! Men like that don't feel the need to post on billboards. They live "outside the system" and follow their dreams to the fullest. Freedom in the pure sense of the word.

Some guys (gals) on this site might qualify, but I don't. I work a job, serve on call 24/7 and pay my taxes weather I want to or not. I still dream of someday being the man that walks everywhere, lives without money and wakes every morning knowing he is free.

Cheers,
-Dave

True, at either end of the social class spectrum lies a leisured class. We can all opt at any time to join one, the other takes some serious good fortune to reach.

I'm neither hardman nor whiner, but I did just pinch a loaf on your post. But I'm guessing you must be right up there with the likes of of Lynn Hill or Lisa Rands, tough guy!
