I was planning on shelf this weekend, but I've slapped it with a big Maybe tag now. 18" up here in the mountains. Ridicoulous but exciting. However with temps in th 50-70s this weekend near Canon City I'm thinking there's going to be mini waterfalls on the rock we wanna climb.

If the shelf trip falls out I'm open to something local for a day climb.

are we going to shelf, or not?

I'm still going!!!
After crack climbing in the rain at IC, a bit of soggy hiking isn't enough to keep me away :D

I plan to leave Friday night after work and possibly stay over in Colo Spgs with a friend, then drive the rest of the way early Sat morning. I'll only be climbing on Saturday until 5 pm-ish b/c I have to be in Denver on Sat night. So who's with me???

given the warm and sunny forecast, i suspect south facing climbs will dry pretty quick. paths and roads may be muddy, but who cares?

granted, this is sport climbing we're talking about, but who's gonna let a little bit of moisture get in the way of an awesome weekend?

come on, kids, let's do it. if worse comes to worst, we'll go pay uncle ted a visit in florence. perhaps he'd sign my shirt?

edit:

i'm still down with going.

i'm still without a ride.

if i don't go, i'd like to/am able to work tomorrow. all day. if i am going, i need to let work know.

blah blah blah blah. i stayed home sick today and i'm tired of the internet and need some real social interaction.

someone please stimulate me.

I don't think I'll drive Lucille down to Shelf. If the roads are muddy at all, she'll get stuck there until next summer.

Lets see how the weather is tomorrow but I'm thinking it might be easier to leave early early Saturday morning and bypass sleeping in the cold forecasted for Friday night.

Steve: I know the springs got a lot more snow than we did. Do you have any friends in Canon City that can give us a 'real' weather report?

Josh, if I were you, I'd work tomorrow.

thanks youse guys.

i'm very much looking forward to seeing you/getting out of town/climbing/camping/sleeping on the ground.

There's bed/couch/futon space for 8 people (including me) to stay at my friend's house in Colo Spgs on Fri night, more if anyone wants to crash on the floor. It would be about a 45-60 min drive from there to Canon City on Sat morning. I'll be stopping at the house on Saturday evening to shower and change into my Halloween costume for a party that night in LoDo.

So...let me know if you're interested in staying in Colo Spgs Fri night, getting a ride with me to Shelf, and/or going to the Halloween par-tay!

Hi there to all you Shelf enthusiasts. I'm still pretty new in town and my husband is away this weekend, so I'm scrounging around for partners for 10/28. The weather looks excellent. Lately I'm climbing up to 10b, so I'm looking for a group or some experienced individuals to partner up with for tomorrow. PM me or just give me a call (719)338-9243. Otherwise I'll just show up and see if I can't find an odd-numbered group to pair with.

Looks like we may have two Boulderites (crack_addict, and veganboyjosh) who can get down to the springs, but don't have a way back on Sunday. Anyone going to Shelf this weekend that can offer a ride home Sunday?

FYI, according to Mountain Project the Cactus Cliff road is now closed for winter so you'll probably want to hike over from on top of Dark Side, hike the road, or do a shuttle if you want to climb there. Hit Mensus Prow! It was pretty cool.

So drive out to Yosemite and make us jealous. :D

Hope you made it back home quickly. Being at the airport is like being half dead.
