question on tent

I am looking to buy a 4 season tent with sufficient room for me and my pack. This tent is going to be used for alt of 8000 feet or more with tons of other gear for 3-4 days of operation in snow and storms so weight is an issue. I also want to be able to set it up on a worse case situation such as 60 MPH wind or in a full snow whiteout. I have a North face VE25 Expedition tent but that is a 2+ person tent and kind of heavy of this job.

what tent you guys recommend?

Thanks

The MSR Fury might be a tad on the big side, but its the lightest double walled 4-season mountaineering tent on the market.

http://www.mountainsafetyresearch.com/tents/fury.asp

Its a nice tent too. Easy to set up in the wind.

Also check out the Bibler I-tent. Lighter still, but higher price. Single walled.

http://www.bdel.com/gear/i-tent.php

Similar is the Integral Designs Mk1

http://www.integraldesigns.com/...;mainproducttypeid=5

All three are "cozy" with two people, so a single person, with gear, should fill it just about perfectly.

Good luck. And maybe I'm just spoiled, but 8000 isn't all that high unless you're in the coastal ranges. I live at nearly 8000 feet. A standard 4 season tent ought to get it done.

I'll have to say the MSR is a great little tent. I used it last summer for 2 months in the Karakoram. I really liked the vestible on it. the bad think IMHO is that it only has one door.

Bibler as others have said...or even Black Diamond's new ultralight shelters...the sil nylon floors have me worried as does the Epic by Nextec fabric, but 95% of reviewers love them! You can't beat the weight! If price isn't too much of an issue, check out Hilleberg tents. ALL sorts of lightweight, large, WELL made tents. Spendy, but the best on the market in my Opinion. Also, what about a betalight or Megalight (by BD)?

Bibler! For what you have described you need a single wall tent. IMHO

I can get near 1/2 off on BD, should I go for it ?

Since Bibler and BD are one in the same (same design, just different material in most cases), are you asking about a specific tent, or the brand in general? If you can get about half off on a Bibler, its exactly what you need for a perfect price.

BD's tents are awesome for light and fast, but for the rigors of mountaineering, I'd go with something that can take a bit more abuse. Like Bibler, BD's bigger, burlier older brother.

I been so rusty on updating myself on some of the new gears and I do not know what to get. I know on BD products and mountain HD I could get 50% off so I need to stay with these guys .

I do not want to pay another $550 when I got a new NF VE 25 expedition tent in my room. I want a light weight tent for one person not another big tent .

Save yourself some money and suffering and get a good snow shovel and snow saw. A cozy home deep in the snow is way nicer and safer than holding up the walls to a nylon dome.

If you have to stick with those brands I'd say buy an EV 2 from Mtn Hardwear. I have the BD's and all i can say is if things get BAD plan in a snow cave. Actually, just plan on snow cave anyways....they're warm and cozy. (oh yeah and cheap)

Sounds like a pro deal situation. If you have a BD pro deal, then you have a Bibler pro deal. Same company, just different brand name.

So yeah, Mountain Hardware EV2, or a a Bibler I-Tent. Your choice.

Oh yeah I forgot BD owns Bibler... duh

I-Tent or Eldorado...end of story

You'll bitch about them a lot but wind up using it more than any other tent you own because you can trust your life to them.
