Very sad news. Three Bulgarian mountain climbers died in the Swiss Alps on Tuesday. They were trying to climb the Matterhorn on the border between Switzerland and Italy. van Nenkov (25), Philip Jasmati (28), and Tihomir Stoyanov (30) were found dead on the norhtern slope of the Matterhorn. Veselina Shishkova, who waited for them in Zermatt, called the mountain rescue services on 29 January after she lost contact with her friends. Dimitar Tsanchev, a spokesperson for the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the information. Helicopters were send to search for the mountain climbers but it was already too late. A few hours later their bodies were found on the Northern slope of the 1,100 metre (3,606 feet) high mountain. All climbers were members of the 'young breather'club in Sofia, Bulgaria. Ivan Nenkov and Philip Jasmati have tried to climb the same mountain before but in May 2006 bad weather spoiled their plans.
