If you got a first-generation Montrail Wasabi, the Velcro will last about a week. Anything else will probably last the life of the shoe.

The Madrock shoes I have don't stick anymore after 3 month (if that). All my other pair still stick, even my Zen after 2 years.

I don't think you should worry about it. If the Velcro quits in the first few months, though, definitely call customer service (find the number on the website) and see what they can do. Generally, that's a warranty issue.

I have had the same velcro pairs of shoes from 5.10 for years at a time and the velcro never stops working.

I've owned several pairs of Sportiva Katanas, and the velcro seems to wear out after several years. Maybe 3 or 4 years of resoles.

I have had velcro on my Tevas replaced by an ordinary shoe repair shop, and they should be able to do climbing shoes no problem. Also, you can ask you resole service if they do it. Its a simple enough repair. The only issue I see is with them obtaining weird shaped velcro, like the big circular velcro on the Katanas.

Look dood, the army uses velcro, on their gear, it is pretty sturdy, but you were thinking about getting shoes with velcro on them, I would go for slippers, some 5.10 anasazi slippers, then you dont even have to worry about it. But, if you were just asking how long velcro lasts, go to wal mart and buy yourself a 5 dollar pair of velcro shoes and see. I mean there is no guarentee. Some velcro is made from advanced polymers while their velcro is not. When shopping for velcro, I would do these three things first.

1) Make sure you lick the velcro, it will tell you how sharp it is, and you will look like afreak in public.

2) Try to annoy the dude, letting you try on the shoes, by SWIPING the velcro back and forth, in a "musical fashion" playing some scratches and then freestyle to your new song

3) Bring your pair of wal mart shoes with you to see how stron wal mart velcro is compared to la sportiva or 5.10 velcro is.

4) Ask for a discount, I mean hey, it might work if you are "dood, I think this velcro sucks" the shoe dood might be like, "ok man, il give you ten bucks off"

BUT I GUESS YOU COULD GO ABOUT IT THAT WAY
