Hi, I'm from the US, and am going to Ecuador in early April to see Galapagos, Amazon, and a little mountain sightseeing but no mountaineering (done that). Have you found out about any rock climbing there? I ahve a few days and would like to go. Cheers, Jeanette jeanettehelfrich@comcast.net in Washington DC areaAngelic

Sorry I have not found any info. I went of a week long fishin trip near Lago Agrio years ago, it was very fun catching piranhas and sleeping next to the tributaries.

Hola amigos,

I lived in Quito and Ecuador for several years. Don't plan on any great rock climbing. There is a climbing wall in Quito where you can get a workout. It's called the Rockodromo. Take any taxi to the Pista de los Chasquis or the Coliseo Ruminahui and you'll see it just off of the traffic circle there. There used to be a few sport routes on a wall about half an hour outside of town but it's currently off limits (private land). There's a new small area with a handful of sport routes, but no bouldering to speak of. The only decent bouldering (mediocre and often raining) is about 10 hours south of Quito. My advice, enjoy the country for the kayaking and bigger mountains and take a vacation from rock.
Safe travels

Hey,

I am from Quito but I have lived in the US for 7 years. I am spending this summer here in Ecuador doing some mountaineering and hopefully some rock climbing. If you are going to be here this summer PM if you need anything. Two friends from the US are coming soon also.

I think you're not talking with the right people. There are several places near Quito with good rock climbing. Please check this http://monodedo.com/...nas/topos/zona1.html
I personally recommend Sigsipamba and Sierra Vírgen if you are looking for bouldering. There's a new place near Papallacta with nice bouldering. More info soon.
