Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I'm flying soon, and things have changed recently... Anyone flown with their rack? Still check it or is it ok to carryon?

Think there's a difference between US and International flights, because I have both lined up.

Ultimately, it is up to the supervisor of the TSA site through which you are trying to pass. I've always found that, so long as you're not hauling #4 C4s or bigger, it's fine. Every time I've done it, I get selected for special treatment, but with kindness, a smile, and a little show-and-tell, no one's ever had a problem with it. Worst case (and I've never had it happen), they'll have you check it through, so store it in a bag or container you can check in the event you get an uncooperative agent or plan on being a jerk to the TSA.

I've flown recently with my rack and rope in my carry on and I haven't had any problems. I do however usually get a bag check called on my bag and have to show them what's in my bag. No big deal as long as you're not in a hurry.

I went through it, there is no mention of rock climbing on that site.

Have you gone through it?

I e-mailed TSA, and gotten back FOUR autoresponder messages, but no human has e-mailed me back.

I fly often due to work and depending on where I'm going I bring my stuff with me so that I can experience the local flavor.

If you didn't find it on there, then it's ok to bring. The only things that have restrictions on them are Ice tools and mountaineering axes. Those must be checked through to your destination.

This is usually what I carry stuff in:

No problems as of yet...
