I've had this on and off pain in my pinky finger for about a year now. Some days it hurts others it doesn't. Most of the time it doesn't hurt too bad when I am climbing, but when someone gives me a firm hand shake it hurts like a motha. I doubt it is broken, there is no bruising. If anyone has a clue on how I should tape my finger or what the heck I did I would appreciate it.

Shooting pain, dull / sharp.. does it radiate up into or past your knuckle? It indeed definately could be broken, but (without any MD skills) a best guess, I'de say a nerve would be more likely... remember nerves are kind of wierd too; a pinched disk in your back can make your little toe feel like someone just stuck a needle under your toenail - the brain often misinterprets the real location of pain when it comes to nerves.

According to my previous experiences I would guess hairline fracture, tendonitis or a pinched nerve.

Don't use your hand for 6 months and it should be better ... AAHHHHHH!!!! ... where did that idea come from???

Quit whining- my pinky does a reverso in the middle joint because of all the dislocations I've been blessed with. I've thought pretty seriously about hacking it right off with a kitchen knife or my own teeth. Maybe you should think about amputating it? You could also wedge it in a finger crack and then drop your whole body weight to rip it right off. Otherwise hari kari always helps distract me from my pinky pains.
