Why do I experience shoulder pains when I climb? Even when I don't do any hard twists and what not. Thank you all in advance!

Be more specific... What type of pains? Dull? Sharp? In which areas? Muscle pain? Doing which movments? Are you warming up? Cooling down? Stretching?

Sorry. I do warm ups, stretching, etc. I guess it is a dull pain, more in the back or even top of the shoulder. It does not feel like muscle pain, but it might as well be. In one instance it happens often - when I am "humping/hugging" the wall and try to get my arm from the front of my body, out and over (apologies if it doesn't make sense). Could it be muscle growth? Or overwork? Thank you. [ This Message was edited by: pakman0 on 2002-10-25 15:15 ]

For years I had shoulder pains when benching over a certain weight at the gym. Eventualy I realized that the problem was not in my shoulder but in my nek because of pinched nerve between C4 and C5. Pray that this is not the problem with you, but it is quite easy to have checked out.

I'm not sure from your description, but it sounded a little like problems I had. I would recomend getting it checked out. I had shoulder tendonitis from climbing / volleyball / snowboarding and it really did a number on me. I couldn't climb for over a year. I also had problems in my upper back. Pinched nerves, needed chiro adjustments etc. It all started with some pain lifting my arm above the shoulder, but it was a sharp pain, especially as it got worse. I saw a doctor and then did lots of PT, a little chiropractor and bunches of massage (a theracane is my savior). I'm much better now with lots of work. Most likely you won't have a problem as bad as mine. Good Luck
