THe article says:

"The man's friend received some burns from the rope he held while spotting, so he was also transported to the hospital."

It doesn't seem to say what was the cause of the accident... but why was the man's friend (spotter? belayer?) holding the rope while spotting? what caused rope to slide through his hands?

Am I missing something obvious?

Anyway, I'm glad he wasn't too badly hurt and hopefully he'll make a full, quick recovery.
