Just curious, do any of you drink Gatorade, Powerade, etc. when you climb. Does it make a difference. I know this is a stupid question, just wondering. Obey your thirst....haha...

I used to drink one gatorade or powerade in each trainning session until I forgot to buy one and had to try with just pure water. It worked better, honestly I now rarely drink those.

Get the Gatorade powder, and use about half as much as the instructions say. Or mix it full strength to dilute your wall partner's cheap tequila ("Gatorita"). Even better is to squeeze a real orange and put that in the water bottle with the water. The downside is you have to clean the bottle rather soon.

Boldering with gatorade = I pull hard. Boldering WITHOUT gatorade = I pull hard. Who cares what you buy at teh convenience store on the way to the crag ? I prefer LoneStar.

Climbing or not, gatorade is nice in the desert during the summer, when you are sweating massively and actually NEED some of those much-hyped electrolytes. Usually, if you are doing highly active stuff in which you will be drinking over 1.5 gallons a day, supplement it with gatorade or something like it.

I used to drink PowerAde and Gatorade all day long. Apparently, excessive use of these products is not good for your health. The suger content is sky high and jacks up your triglycerides and the acidic residue from these drinks slowly eats away at the coating of your teeth. I am sure they do other things to you too...and I know there are some out there who are going to say "eat what you want, you only live once." Rotten teeth and high sugar content are not worth it for me. Its recommened you chased these drinks with water.I have since cut back to only drinking them during physical activity.

You can make sport drinks. You might want to fiddle with the carbo levels depending on your situation. Moderate exertion - ie sport and bouldering with moderate approach then hypotonic solution, High to extreme exertion (ie marathons or biking all day) increase the glucose levels to a isotonic or hypertonic solution. Hypotonic Sports Drink 0.25 L Unsweetened juice (~20g of glucose) 0.75 L Water Pinch of Salt (1g) Or some variation on this theme, add more glucose equivalent for isotonic (about 50g) or Hypotonic (50g+).

stick with water. I used to run cross country and some people used to water down flat coke but alot of the time water is better than anything. eat a power bar or some thing for energy about and hour before your climb also drink lots of water. thats my two cents worth. hope I helped.

You can keep the beer and I will hopefully be climbing elsewhere. Beer + climbing = disaster.

Patrick, The only disaster is if the beer causes you to max out your bladder in mid-pitch. That IS a problem. Sounds like a beer might do you good--relax. And by the way, I don't climb much in Minnesota anymore. Curt

It's not a good idea to drink gatorade during a climb. It has a lot of sugar, and you will eventually crash. Stick with water during a climb. Gatorade is ggod as a recovery drink afterwards.
