I am going to the Moab area in late April. I would love to climb Primrose Dihedral but will be in a Toyota Corolla. Can I get in there or do I need high clearance?

I think you can make it to the park boundary, but the roughly 5mi of road into moses is a little rough. I made it in a honda CRV w/o incident, but i felt like i used all the clearence and all wheel drive. There are some really sandy sections. Great climb once you get in there though.

Generally most people consider a high clearance vehicle is a necessity for that part of the White Rim road and Taylor Canyon. The Honda CRV that was mentioned has a stock clearance of 7.3" and beefier tires. A Toyota Corolla, depending on model year, can have a clearance as little as 4". You might get in with the Toyota with careful driving and spotting - or you might just as easily get high-centered, tear out the oil pan or snap a steering knuckle. Personally, if I had only a Corolla, I'd rent a Jeep. Keep in mind that getting towed out of the back country in Canyonlands is typically ~$1500. As always, YMMV.

In April 2006, we drove a rental Chevy Malibu up Taylor Canyon and did Moses. The Malibu had moderate clearance, certainly better than my Toyota Celica. Of course, conditions vary, depending on what the latest storm did. It would be rough in a Corolla. Definitely bring a shovel if you decide to try it. climbing photos at: http://www.stanford.edu/.../rep/06403/index.htm April 2007 - just back from the Schafer Trail and White Rim Trail to Monument Basin in a Jeep Cherokee. This has several rocky spots where the Malibu would not have made it.
