Just realized that this list is probably the same as my sport climber list but here goes. My contenders for best boulderers: Fred Nicole: FA Dreamtime V14/15 FA Esperanza V14 as well as these V14s (some FAs and SAs?) Spectre -Oliphants Dawn -Fatman -Eve Rave -Cave Rave -Fatman Assis -Slashface -Coeur de Leon Dave Graham: FA Spectre V14 FA(?) Nothin But Sunshine V14 Zerberus V14 Klem Loskot: flashed in one day: -Bully V11/12 -Copperhead V1 -Shingles V10 -Mr. Mom V10 plus numerous hard ascents And what about Bernd Zangerl? He got the SA of Dreamtime at night, by the light of a gas lantern. anyways those are my top 3 . -mark

Yeah, I went back and checked after you posted and found your screen name and noticedy you hadn't posted in a while. I'm DejaVu on the bouldering.com forum. There are three types of people: 1:"Hey! The glass is half empty"-The optimist 2:" Hey! The glass is half full"-the pessimist 3: "I ordered a cheeseburger"

Didn't Graham do Dreamtime as well...? Second ascent, but still, he's done it. I've got a video of him doing it actually...at night. Just to split hairs. Mike...

Fred Nicole, Chris Sharma, Dave Graham, Malcolm Smith, Klem Loskot, Markus Bock, Toni Lamprecht, a few more. A lot more who aren't well known either. In the past John Gill, Jim Holloway, Ben and Jerry, Ron Kauk, and more I can't remember right now.

Thanks, guys, but my time was long, long ago when standards were much lower. I'd never be able to compete with the current crop of boulderers! [ This Message was edited by: jgill on 2002-10-21 16:22 ]

You are too modest John, and in any event, you were going out into new territory, just like these guys are. That definitely stands for something in my book.

I could be wrong but I recall Spectre and Fatman being V13 not V14. On the Women's side Lisa Rands may be very strong but there are a number of other women who have sent V11 (check http://www.8a.nu) and Josune Berziartu has outclimbed all other women both bouldering (14c/d traverse) and routes (14d - Bain de Sang just a couple of days ago but has also sent a 14b/c and a 14c) as far as I know. We just don't hear about it as much in the US. josh [ This Message was edited by: pbjosh on 2002-10-31 21:55 ]

OK. My list now: 1) John Gill, no explanation needed. 2) Jim Holloway, because no one has repeated his hardest problems from 20+ years ago. 3) Chris Jones, because he is the strongest boulderer I have ever seen. 4) Kerwin Klein, much the same reason as C.J. 5) Chris Sharma, beacuse he is on everyone else's list.
