Can anyone suggest a good place to start learning to climb? I do a lot of hiking and would like to learn to do some rock climbing. I live north of worcester, MA and am looking for something local. thanks

a class, or find an experienced climber. If you are close to a gym this shouldn't be too hard. Or you could be like me, jump on a boulder, and get lucky that you don't break anything

For indoor stuff, there's a rock wall at one of the Y's in Worcester I believe. I've never been there, so I don't know what its like but its local. There's also Gravity Rock in Franklin (down 495) and Boston Rock Gym in Woburn (probably ~45 min drive). I think those two places both have intro classes, or you could try to hook up with people there to learn the basics. There's also a guide out in Leominster - check out his website at www.verticalworldadventures.com Good luck!

I'll be willing to teach anyone for free (You must provide gear) also - EMS climbing school, Zoaroutdoor. I don't recomend learning in a gym!

Check out the AMC (appalachain mountain club) they have a mountaineering section that has introductory classes and offers club sponsored trips there is a chapter based in Boston and there may be a central mass chapter aswell. Have fun!
