USnavy wrote: So what’s everyone's take on the "gear4rocks" brand non-UIAA / CE certified cams? Personally I wouldn’t trust them. http://www.gear4rocks.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&id=2&Itemid=11 would you trust a cam I made in my basement? I have the equipment to do it properly, I'd say you wouldn't, I wouldn't either you need controls, if 9/10 are ok do you want to be the guy falling on the 10th?

At least they are trying to get it certified, according to their website. However they also say that for the nut tool, and i dont think that there is a uiaa standart for it. Looks a bit strange. but their plastic nuts got me interested. Somehow i have the totally irational whish to buy them, jsut for the sake of having them ... qwert

I didn't know KROK had changed their name... Edit: never mind, they haven't... "gear4rocks is representatives of the KROK manufacturers trade mark outside Ukraine and at eBay."

This is the same company as the old Petrenko World The number 2 C4 knockoff STILL has its axle wesher/plate whatever oriented wrong. So the trend stands: They can't even QC the marketing pics, I'm scared to the real-life ones BD tested some of them. Most didn't meet their ratings http://www.bdel.com/...p_archive.php#112906

i can't tell if you're a troll. oh well. hey, don't bother with those cams. check out rockempire.com. i've climbed on the durangos (old school trangos) and they were fine. they're obviously no black diamonds, but i used them exclusively for a year while i was cutting my teeth.

bdawg88 wrote: Can you pls send me the website/data showing Gear4Rocks brand cams outperforming BD?... The one KROK cam I tested broke at 16.7 kN, 111% of its 15 kN rating. The results are in The Lab forum somewhere. These days the KROK cams are not much less expensive than the Rock Empire Durango and Comet cams. Thanks, Bob "BoKu" K.

I think they compliment the BD well cause they fit perfectly between the BD sizes. ie: you have a crack too big for a PERFECT BD #1 or a #2, well the rock empire #2 fits percectly and you won't cry as much when you have to leave on as a bail piece!

I bookmarked this thread in 08. Since then I have been sending emails to the gear4rocks staff every 6 months asking about CE/UIAA progress. Several months ago they got CE certification on their first product line (without any redesigns needed). They claim on the website that they will be working on other product lines, I am guessing this is not a cheap process and that is the limiting factor. I can sympathize with that. The website is here: http://gear4rocks.com/ The “Links” cams are the ones that are CE certified. The Set of 5 is here for $131: http://shop.gear4rocks.com/...f-five-/prod_27.html And the individual ones are here for $33: http://shop.gear4rocks.com/links-cams/cat_7.html They are also on ebay: http://stores.ebay.com/gear4rocks I too was weary, but having spoke(email) with them often since this thread started, having translated a lot of the CE and Ukrainian testing certs/standards/forms. I ordered a set. I will post here after they arrive to give my impression. best of luck,

I looked into it a while ago. The cert portion is likely cheap, just a fee for the final approval, but you would have to translate all documents, send a bunch of replicates for testing… In the case of CE you must hire a CE/UIAA approved testing facility to do the tests and have them submit the results to CE. The process is something I would love to learn more about but i have spent way too much time already... If you learn more and have the time to shoot me some PMs I would greatly appreciate it. thanks.
