Hey folk, I was wondering what the best route to Bishop was if Tioga is closed.
So far Google Maps says there are no seasonal closures via http://maps.google.com/...&ie=UTF8&z=7 and I wanted to check with you guys (sorry for the long URL).
Basically, SF to Tahoe, then take 89 to 395.
Am I missing any other possible closures? If so, what's the most certain route, and how long would it take from SF to Bishop?

The other option is hwy 88. It goes past Kirkwood Ski resort, so it is generally kept open.
The 4 and 108 are seasonal closure.
The CHP website should have all the latest up to date closures for you though.

Thanks Donald. I checked the DOT web site and it seems like a section of 89, which connects 50 and 88 to 395 is closed, so I'm going to have to head up to Gardnerville, then back down 395.
Oddly enough, Google Maps says that it's still a bit faster than 88--weird.
If anyone else has any other suggestions, or just good places to stop on the way, I'd love to hear 'em!

580 to 205 to 5 south to 58 east to 395 north

^ That seems really roundabout, majid.
Anyways, for the future searchers, we basically drove to Gardnerville, then headed south on 395 to Bishop.
On our way back, we made only a few stops, so the drive from Bishop to SF took about 6.5 hours.
