You guys got any advices on buying an HD camcorder ? Mostly to film rock climbing. I don't have 1000$ to spend for this, so maybe something under 700$. And is it worth to go HD in that price range ? Any infos/advices are appreciated.

Thank you

Unless you're making DVDs or something, I'm not sure HD is worth it - the quality has to be brought way down to be uploaded.

well, not actually. I have one that I don't recommend, though.
You can get some super compact medium definition ones, though. Make sure you try it out, first - check that the picture doesn't wobble when you shake the camera. Make sure the sound is good, and check that there's some way to tell that it's rolling when the screen is shut.

Well mandryd and I use the Panasonic DMC-ZS3(~$350) to shoot 720p @ 30 FPS video. I think the videos look awesome even when compressed on youtube when viewed in HD. The ZS3 also some decent still shots but only in good sunlight. The DMC-LX3 would shoot much better pictures and still decent 720p @ 24 FPS video.

Personally I am waiting for an LX3 replacement or perhaps the new Olympus PEN E-P1. The Sanyo HD2000 also looks nice since it shoots true 1080p @ 60 FPS. However, its stills are not good at all.

User HD videos: Mandryd’s have some really great climbing.

The 30 buck model you can get at biglots.
Well, TBH it's pretty decent for the price - awsome actually. But if you have the pocket weight to be thinking HD, there's far better cameras out there.

I was using a Canon HF200 HD SDcard camcorder for my videos and it was great. The only complaint I had was with the image stabilization but it was probably more user error than anything else.

I also used a Panasonic LX3 and it'd be my choice if you're looking for smaller clips which you could upload to Youtube or Vimeo.

Unfortunately, I broke both of them during my climbs. The LX3 was dropped 60m and the HF200 dropped 60m when I fell. Unsure
