I will be flying into San Francisco on the 26th of December and flying out on the 5th of Jan. My buddy lives in Salinas and does not climb but is planning some MTB excursions. I would love to get in some climbing back in my native CA. I have trad 5.7 and seconded 5.9+ sport 5.9 and love to boulder. Any one got something cool for this Minnesotan on vacation? Not entirely sure what my plans are so please give me some suggestions. Matt Stone St. Cloud, MN sgltkmnd@charter.net

I'll say most people go to somewhere outside of Bay Area for that time period. Anyway, if weather permitted, you might go to Castle Rock (sport/bouldering/less trad) as a short trip, or go to Yosemite Valley (bouldering/cold trad) as a long one. Of course, Pinnacle, Mt. Diablo, Gratto(Table Mountain), and St. Helena (north Napa) could be your one/two day trips.

I hate beer! Naaaa just kidding Salinas!! "Pinnacles National Monument" is just 30 min away. Bunch of 5.8/9/10 waits for you. If you're tired of Pinnacle, goto Castle Rock then (50 min drive). You friend must love this idea. If you get toasted sooner, he/she might dump you and go for MTB. For details, you may visit local gyms (Sand City or Santa Cruz), or visit REI at Saratoga/San Jose. Have fun. [ This Message was edited by: yjchang on 2002-12-05 16:56 ]

Ya I just found the Climber's Guide to Pinnacles National Monuments on Amazon and am looking forward to it! Wanna meet up. The buddy is a he and has never done any climbing so I am limited to what we can do. If I can set up a top rope and give him a gri gri we can play a bit. But finding at least one more would be way cool. I would love to drag his ass up something multi.... Matt
