I am looking for any ideas for cardio workouts I do with my fibula having a hairline fracture. I am able, and according to the doctor allowed to walk and exercise it, but any twisting or rolling of the ankle is pretty painful.

He'll still have some odd forces on his leg and ankle while swimming. Biking, on the other hand, is probably idea. Times where I've rolled my ankle I've found it's actually easier to bike than to walk.

I recently had a hip injury and even walking hurt. Touring on my split board was fine (no impact just sliding). I found 45 minutes up the skifield when it was closed great exercise. I imagine inline skating etc low impact too.

i remember watching a study about sex versus exercise. they concluded that an hour of sex burns more calories than an hour of cardio in the gym but then again it was on morning tv and oprah... and oprah isnt that reliable...

Not knowing WTF a fibula is, I'd suggest a rowing machine

Ditto on the rowing machine. Get someone to show you how to properly do it and you'll only be able to last like five minutes...which is about 5 times longer of a cardio workout than sex

Can you climb? If so, go to your gym and climb laps of 5.6 or 5.7 with no rest. Do 10 or 15 and you'll feel the pump and start sweating. As a bonus, you're getting climbing specific endurance training. If you can't, get a bicycle trainer and spend an hour riding every morning.

Well the stationary bike works, but is really boring. I am going to be outside cruising timber all week so I guess I figure out how the the whole walking in the snow goes. I would love to go to the local gym, but their isn't one, and their are no women near by.

Jump rope, if you can. Jumping rope is has less impact than running and it really strengthens your lower legs. 10 min. of jump rope = 45 min. jogging. I can jog 10 miles but I can't jump rope for 10 min.....it's hard.

If you have lots of snow and need to avoid jarring your fibula, why not try x-country skiiing? Mad cardio, fresh air and no impact. There's also snowshoeing - go for a hike. If stuck inside, I'd go for rowing machine and/or stationary bike.

I'll second Headchop's recommendation for XC skiing. It's not no impact, but it is low impact. And you live in a great place for it. One distinct benefit of skiing is that you the can work your aerobic endurance for longer times than some of the previously mentioned approaches. Maintaining an aerobic-level heart rate for a couple of hours is definitely achievable when healthy and I'd suspect that you can do much the same with the injury you describe. In another month, you can translate to biking and get a similar benefit, but for now, have fun in the snow while it's there.

XC skiing or snowshoeing if there is good snow out there. Both are fairly low impact. Fibula takes almost no weight at all so as long as you aren't doing any major twisting then it is good to go. depending on the location an aircast or ankle brace might be helpful. if you had a pool swimming with a pull buoy (ankle floats) it would be arms only and a tough workout

Sex is like bouldering, one or two hard moves, then you either top out or drop off. For some people it's an aids route.
