Hi, I've been reading about the climbing at Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur. Sounds great, but is there anywhere nearby to rent gear to take up to the caves? How much are rentals? Thanks!

Having climbed around most of the walls at Batu, I can say I've never seen anything. However, my guidebook says that you can rent stuff from Wira Adventures www.wiraconsultant.com They have an address and phone number on their website.

I think they may have rental gear at Camp-5 gym at the One-Utama shopping center. Really good gym and if they dont have any rentals you could probably hook up with someone to go climbing with. I was alone when visiting and took a chance by just going to Damai wall and sure enough I met some people who could belay me. I had my own gear though.

Just wondering, is it advisable to start on these outdoor walls for beginner climbers? Or is it possible to learn on those walls as you go along? Thanks!

Not sure what you are asking for but Damai wall has is great for beginnners as itīs full of easy routs. As for going there and not knowing anything about climbing, iīd say no. While climbing isnīt rocket science, if you have to ask about something you donīt know enough. Read a book or join a course. Dont die.

there is a shop near the caves call Verticale that have gear and a knowledgeable crew. It could help to drive there, but really it's a short 1-1.5k walk to some of the crags. www.verticale.my
