I'll go with friends. That way I can kick back and relaxe when I want and get a good climb in. Even tho im a beginner and just getting back into it its still fun...we pick on ourselves and it breaks tension...from whatever "rut" were in.

I think that to stay motivated over the long run (and I've been climbing for more than half of my lifetime now) is to just do what you enjoy and not worry about "getting better." I've never understood the division between having fun and getting better/climbing harder. Some enjoy getting better. They enjoy setting their sights on longer, harder, more committing routes and getting after it. The most euphoric moments of my short climbing career have been when I've successfully pushed beyond my (meager) previous limits.

Being able to tighten bolt with my bare hands. And also using my calluses to sand down wood furniture.

For the last few years I've had to have some sort of a goal to keep me motivated. I'm not sure that is exactly the best solution, but sometimes I just don't feel like going to the gym twice a week to climb the same old boring lines unless I've got some goal outside that I've got my sights set on.
