Noob- Problems repeating problems

Hey guys, maybe this is something common but it can be pretty frustrating for me......I think I overthink sometimes. Meaning, I can often send a problem, but have a hard time repeating it. This has happened about 3-4 times in the last 2 weekends and happened again yesterday. I think maybe it is because the first few times I am just climbing and not thinking too much about it, but when I try to repeat I try to remember what holds I used etc, and I always stuggle sending problems I already completed ( assuming they are challenging problems) Maybe it could be because my arms are too burnt by the time i try again, but that might just be an excuse. I often climb solo so I dont have a spotter who can see what I am doing and provide some advice. Personally I think it is just something that will come with experience, but wanted to see if anyone else has this problem also ( no pun intended)

Also, on a side note, I try to downclimb every problem I climb, but not sure if this is a good idea.....it just seems like it helps with my strength, but i also put myself in some hairy situations ( and like i said, I am usually solo in the middle of freaking nowhere so not sure this is that wise)

Any thoughts?

Sounds like outdoor problems, ie real bouldering?

Fear of falling, fear of failing, are most likely.

First time up, you don't know what you don't know, so you can't erect mental "I can't" barriers.

But once you know, you KNOW... and the "I can't" mental barriers start rising.

Work on "I CAN". But don't do that over an ankle busting fall, out there in the boondocks (that was the part I keyed in on... )

Sometimes when trying a repeat, your memory of the climb gets in your way. Much as you said about possibly overthinking, and climbing with a clean slate.

When repeating, you sometimes focus on what you remember of what lies ahead, but not on the steps needed to get to where you remember; and instead of focusing on where you are, you're focusing too far ahead.

For me, I think the repeat problem is lack of care. When I'm first trying the problem/climb, I'm thinking carefully, moving carefully, because I don't know if it will work or not. Then, to repeat, I know it will go... so I'm less careless, I'll lunge for something from the wrong stance, instead of carefully moving my feet up or other "in a hurry" because I know I can do it type moves.

Yeah, I've had the same problem, no real answers. Usually it's some subtle body positioning that it takes me another 2 or 3 days to figure out but I think that's where the real learning occurs.

Yeah, definitely outdoor , thats half the fun man! I have never even been to a gym so its the only climbing I know.

I appreciate the responses.....I think this is just something that is going to be a problem until I get better and more confident. The funny thing is that this puts me in a confidence roller coaster.....I feel like a world beater when I climb a tough problem, but then come crashing back to earth ( figuratively, hopefully not literally) when i cant repeat it. I guess that is the way the rocks keep that ego in check huh? Bouldering fucking rocks, I know that.

Hmmm, maybe this is why you have trouble repeating, lol!?

Maybe this problem is for you?

BTW I think many if not most climbers have experienced what you relate - flash a problem then spend several tries trying to decipher your own genius!

At least, that's how I look at it!
