I believe so but you can toprope there if you really want to with two ropes.

Check Adirondack Rock climbing guide. Mine is in use right now so I can't. If you don't have it go and get it!!!
When are you going? The black flies are going to get hot not long after this weekend. They are already annoying in the southern dacks.

Beer walls are great for toproping. Depending on what you wanna climb. As soon as you walk up the trail you come atop seven ounces 5.7(hand crack) with bouncer right next .10d (face) extremely easy to top rope, two bomber trees right on top. What grade are you looking to climb? i can give recommendations.

I'm just looking for crags around and near lake placid to top rope at this summer with out having to lead climb seeing how have never lead climbed. mostly just some normal routes Grades 1 or 2. I'v heard of that book i think i'll invest into it. any climbing area that can be top roped from access to the top of the climb with out lead climbing is pretty much what i'm looking for. from 5.5-5.11a

Also just a little newbie questionWink... if the route is labeled with TR or Top Rope does that mean that you can access the top of the climb with out lead climbing?

typically if a route is labeled with TR or toprope it is because there is no adequate protection on the route, if any at all. therefore leading it would not be advised and the only way to climb it safely is with a TR. It doesn't necessarily mean that it is easy to set one up.

Keene valley is probably the best place to go from lake placid. There are some spots in Wilmington Notch, best known for Moss Cliff, but that is out of your league. I would definitely buy the Adirondack Rock guide it will make things 100x easier for you. So if you are gonna take a drive down to Keene valley, definitely take a look at Beer Walls, getting to the top of the cliff is absolutely no problem, with ample amount of trees to set up anchors. there are countless climbs in the 5.5 - 5.11 range. Off the top of my head, seven ounces .7, bouncer.10d, live free or die .9+, afternoon delight 5.5 all super easy to set up top rope, all you need is some static line.
down the road i a little but there is Jewels and gem area that is a short 70ft cliff with easy access to the top, with a great 5.6 crack and climbs up to 5.11.
Creature wall is also a great wall with climbs in your range.
All these crags are within a mile from each other on 73.

A friend and I are planning to go out to the Beer walls next weekend. We are going to hit the "Live free or die area". I have 30ft of static line and 50 ft of webbing plus a bunch of lockers and non lockers. Is that enough gear to build a toprope anchor at that area. Are the trees close to the cliff or are they set back a bit. Thanks
