Hi I was wondering if anybody could give me some info on an old Stubai Ice Axe that I have. I have been searching the Internet but cannot find any similar axes with a hammer end on one side. Thanks.

My guess; mid- sixties, but more likely, early 70's.
Carabiner holes in the head showed up around the mid/late sixties.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone at Stubai couldn't help you with more info.
Nice tool though, with a little finesse , you could probably get up AI4/ WI3+, and look way cool while you're at it.

I think I have a similar model, but, not quite the same.
My guess is mid 70's to late 70' perhaps even into the early 80's.
You looking to part with it? If so, let me know!

Hi thanks for the help everyone. I contacted Stubai again & got the following reply-
"this style was manufactured from the 1950ies till beginning of 1970ties. I canīt figure out the exact time from when to when as it was not common at this time to mark the with a patch-no.I hope this information was useful even we are not able to give you an exact date."

I then contacted Gary at Neptunemountaineering.com as suggested by maldaly and got the following useful info -
"Hi Stuart,
I'm quite sure it isn't from the 50s, more likely the early 70s. The decal looks like that vintage. The tool would commonly be called a North Wall Hammer. That style tool was not uncommon although normal ice axes accounted for most of the production.

No he didn't. My friend Mike has the EXACT tool he uses. It's metal and we've used it a lot cleaning dirt out of cracks. It's a good tool but I wouldn't want to climb with it.

We're talking about two different tools. The tool Clint climbs with on the Eiger is all metal, with a hammer grip and head. It's similar to this
But not as refined.
I don't have the movie with me here on de rock. Watch it though, you'll see.

Last year, I researched about the same axe. I contacted Stubai and they informed me that there were a large number of them manufactured. There are no spare parts left available as I understand. I was impressed by their quick reply to my enquiry. The axe I asked about was a Jeff Lowe.

Nice Hummingbird. I have one a little older.
How do you know your friend Mike has the exact same North Wall hammer?
Are you saying Jonathan Hemlock used a hammer that had no spike, and instead had a hammer handle, like the Hummingbird you showed? I would think the spike would come in handy as an additional weapon, in case you needed it to sanction somebody.
My recollection is, Hemlock used a hammer that had a spike. I don't know any other hammers with no spike, except the Hummingbirds.

The hammer in the Clint action photo I believe is a Simond.
Believe it's the same style as what Titoune has on the Wild Things website.
There is a great old photo of Nicolaus Jaeger climbing " leashless"with that hammer and a Cougar model ice axe.
There's even one for sell on eBay for 60 bucks.
Camp, Salewa, Stubai,Simond, all had very similar looking hammers on the market; it's just that the Simond is the nicest looking.
The Hummingbirds didn't start showing until the late 70's/ early 80's, and those had a fiberglass handle.
