Salt Lake City, although the gyms are about 20-40mins away from the resorts.

North Lake Tahoe towns. Incline Village has a big gym at High Altitude Fitness and Squaw Valley, etc..., are all nearby.

You can check out this page for climbing walls/gyms in Colorado, and correlate with ski places. Salt Lake City (actually Sandy, south of SLC) has an excellent and large climbing gym (Momentum). That's not far from lots of excellent skiing.

Basically any medium sized city with lots of skiing nearby out west will have a gym most likely. Pick your skiing destinations then ask if it has a gym nearby. Most likely the answer will be yes ;)

While SLC is great (people, bars, food, skiing), I have to second the North Tahoe post. Not a true "ski town" as say, S-boat, Vail, Aspen, etc. but with Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Mt. Rose and flat-Star (northstar) there's some of the best skiing IN THE WORLD and no LDS pressures!!! If you do it, live in Olympic Valley, Alpine Meadows, or somewhere with a view of the Lake. Try to avoid living in Truckee (and DON'T live in South Lake=Reno w/a view)! The gym in Incline (highaltitudefitness.net) is awesome for a 3500 sq. ft. facility! Both bouldering and roped routes and super nice and friendly people (as long as you stick to climbers; the general membership~gym rats, 'roid lifters, etc.~ tend to be stuck up a-holes. If you come to Tahoe, drop me a note and we'll show you around, and if you're cool, maybe show you some secret and not-to-be-missed hits you'll tell your friends about to make them jealous!!!

Bozeman, MT. I don't ski, but I understand that a lot of people who live there do, at a place called Big Sky. And Spire climbing center is about 6,000 sp ft. Yeah, I'd probably investigate that one a bit...

Tons of unbelievable skiing, not far from SLC's gyms, as well as high quality outdoor climbing if you are into that as well.

I think Jackson, WY has the best skiing in America. Especially if you like the backcountry. There is a great gym here as well. Depends on the snow year, though. Jobs are scarce and rent is high, and there is a good reason for that.

SLC is weird dude. Don't do it. The LDS pressures suck. Just weird weird weird. There are a ton of better options. Don't know about North Tahoe, but Steamboat rocks, so does Boulder and Jackson Hole. If I had to do it all over again, honestly, I would go to Boulder.

Yes! "trustafarians" is dead on! We came to call them "the lucky sperm club", but it's the same idea! RE: Jackson Hole; yes, awesome back/side country and in-bounds skiing, great bars, ok food, fewer hot girls that rip than Squaw AND it's fuckin freezin there! Great climbing in the summer tho-
