I'm thinking my next route might be named "Karmic Klimber Knots her Knickers".

It's not offensive, because it's four "K"s, not three. Right?

One of my personal favorites:

Diminishing Returns - one of my gym climbs that had holds that got smaller and smaller as you went, ending with the tiniest foot chips and only hand smears and mantles to finish.

I love having named climbs. It makes it way easier to talk with people about them, and a lot of times they can be pretty funny. Sometimes i decide to do a climb just cuz it has a cool name! Wink

I try not to take offense whenever it's unclear whether offense is being offered. I find that this saves me a lot of time and energy.

I generally like it when routes are named- sometimes it adds to the experience, often it's funny, sometimes not. Humor -or want of it- is in the eye of the beholder.

Yes, naming routes opens the door to objectionable names being given. But then, free speech (or, for that matter, letting people post stuff here) opens the door to all manner of stupid things. Not that naming routes is or should be a protected right, or that posting here is anything but a privilege, but I think there's value in both. Let people name their routes, let people post here. If they open their yaps and out comes something stupid, that's where the conversation can start.

I will name my next route "You are a fuck up."

That is all.

slavery has been a part of societies for thousands if not tens of thousands of years. the slave trade in itself does not target any one group of people. you can find slaves throughout history from any number of races, religions, and creeds. is it the nicest practice in the world? of course not. is it racially insensitive, not really. people need to stop feeling like everyone is stepping on their toes. if your feet hurt that much up size your shoe by half a size.

Ridiculous opinion. I live in Asia and the Orient is still a perfectly acceptable term, just like I'm sure how you wouldn't be offended by your country being called the USA, the States, or America.

Next time you sit in a super market outraged over social injustice, take a minute to realize that that is how ASIANS from ASIA decide to brand their food to us.

I have to agree, American's are a bit over the top on this stuff.

Where in Malaysia are you? maybe we can hook up and climb together one day. I'm putting up routes in Indonesia now.

You live in Africa, what do you think of the term African American when referring to someone who has never stepped foot on the continent.

I know my African parent, parents of my students from various parts of Africa, find the term extremely funny.
