I have a couple of friends who have gotten into climbing and I'd like to give it a shot. I had an injury about 5 years ago that left me with foot drop on my left foot. I have no function or feeling in the foot and was wondering if anyone else had an issue like this and what suggestions you have. Do you wear your AFO when you climb? If so, what type of AFO do you wear? Any trouble getting the AFO in climbing shoes? Thanks.

You won't fit or need orthotics in climbing shoes. the climbing shoes tension over their length will provide more than the support you need. I have a lisfrank injury, which prevents me from running, or even standing for too long, but climb pain free. The only time I have trouble is standing with all my weight on the injured foot on a tiny hold for a long time while I get up the nerve to do the next move.

I'd try getting a cheap, "off the shelf" AFO, and cut the foot down so it fits inside your shoe. You are probably going to need a shoe that has pretty big internal volume, like an old school traditional shoe. If you have zero sensation, take the shoe off every half hour or so, make sure you are not compromising circulation. Good luck, that's pretty inspiring. Please post back how it turns out.
