Well, I'd bet my left nut she hasn't climbed "a real 5.9" like the Steck-Salathe, or even a real 5.8 like Braille Book, so what does she know about climbing 5.9?

Climb for yourself -- enjoy the ride. Cool

Thanks to the two of you, I now know both how often I post, and how hard I don't climb.

But you go back to the original thread where Rmsyll2 got so butthurt, you will see that I made no statement about " the realness" of Rmsyll2 as a climber. I did, however, use his self-stated climbing ability to ridicule his statement that a climber unkown to him (and to me) will never be able to climb harder than 5.8, regardless of the amount of practice, solely because the said climber weighs 225lb.

If you enjoy climbing and climb stuff, you are a climber.

If you claim that anyone who doesn't perform to some arbitrary level is not a climber, you are a douche.

I prefer to use the old skool method to tell if someone is a climber. If they have an old nalgene (yeah the BPA kind) with a climbing sticker on it, then they surely ARE a climber. Cool

I'm a very new (indoor only so far) climber, but I thought I'd add my two cents. I was a bit discouraged when I started about 2 months ago because I could barely climb gym 5.5's. I felt out of place and uncomfortable, like I wasn't a "real climber." Now, the funny thing is that I can pretty much climb up a 5.7 like it's a ladder, and I've done one 5.8 (no, your honor, I did not pull myself up on that one draw Wink). However, I feel LEAST like a "climber," and more like a chump trying to be something he isn't, when I get on a 5.9 and struggle and curse. I'm climbing on the 5.7's and even 5.8s. What I'm doing on the ones where I'm number chasing is more like Elaine dancing on Seinfeld.

If you're a n00b, you may eventually become a real climber. If you're a Gumby, you will not. Cool

Cool What a climber is.....Just as describing a snow skiing pro, or fly fishing pro or artist, a CLIMBER IS SOMEONE WHO CAN EXPERIENCE ALL OF THE DIFFERENT TERRAIN challenges i.e. sandstone, limestone, granite etc. and manage and conquer that terrain with a certain artistic completion . A climber is someone who accepts the challenges that the terrain offers and makes it his/her own. 5.2 --- 5.13d whatever
