I am taking a trip from memphis soon and would like to sport climb or boulder in whatever is the best place in east or south TX any ideas. I am going to new orleans after so if its east or south it would be best

East Texas: haha. Pine trees?
Depending on your level, Roger's Park near Waco is probably the best, eastern-most bouldering. Reimers near Austin for roped climbing.
If climbing is the only reason for your side trip you'll be sorely disappointed though, as neither is even remotely close to worth the extra 12 hours of driving you'll endure.

To boot, you have several great options roughly on the way from Memphis to NO. East TN, north AL and north GA... crags abound.

I used to live in Austin and it has some pretty good climbing. As mentioned ryhmers ranch is good. The greenbelt area has some good climbs and bouldering. If you have a couple of days though Austin is really good. At night you can go on sixth street and see some local bands play or get drunk if your into that kind of thing. Austin is the live music capitol of the world!
