The "Classic American Problem" got me thinking. We all have our favorite problems at the local spot. So name an area, and then what do you think is the classic problem there. It doesn't have to be the hardest, just the one you think most people have heard of: Yosemite = "Midnight Lightning" Tuolomne = "Kauk's Corner" "The Peach" Joshua Tree = "White Rastafarian" "So High" "Planet X" Buttermilks = "Mandala" "Powerman Traverse" "Evilution" Stoney Point = "The Font" "Three Pigs" "Masters of Reality" "Expansion Chamber" Horse Flats = "Sword of Damacles" Now your turn.... San Luis Obipso, California; Bishop's Peak The Inner Sanctum 5.10a R/X The first pitch is so runout, it's basically a highball boulder problem. You get two bolts down low, and almost nothing else for the rest of the 160' pitch. A Tobin Sorenson Classic. This climb defines DON'T PUT BOLTS ON ESTABLISHED ROUTES for Bishop's Peak. Tobin led it without any other bolts, so you should, too. Easily the Central Coast's most classic free-climbing classic line. light brown [ This Message was edited by: apollodorus on 2003-01-04 22:17 ]

v10gripper, Speed of light, while a great problem, is not at Black Mountain. It is located at the Relativity Boulders, near Idylwild. On that subject, I recently heard that the "Relativities" are now permanently close to bouldering--due to a change of land ownership. Does anyone know if this is true? Curt I also posted this question in Access/Closures. It may be better for anyone with info to reply there. Thanks. [ This Message was edited by: curt on 2003-01-05 10:01 ]

Thanks Wildtrail, some of us will. Now back to more conversations about bouldering (hence the title of the post and the forum that it's in) Great lists folks, keep going - extend it beyond the classics, let's make this the must do circuit for those that visit an area.

Pueblo, CO area: probably the Ripper Traverse, from the feedback I've gotten over the years. (My photo of John Long on it was on the cover of CLIMBING , No.46, 1978).
