Was bouldering 4 days ago and did a problem with an awkward left handhold. Long story short, after trying the problem a couple of times I ended up with a thin numb strip on my left middle finger. It doesn't hurt or anything but it's kind of tingly and staying numb. I find it really annoying and can't remember having it last this long. Anyone else get this?

I've had some of that tingling sensation occur sometimes, and I've woken up with my arms asleep from the shoulder down (in addition to various climbing complaints). One of my partners has had extended bouts of the numbness you're talking about, and I believe it's related to inflamation that's pressing on a nerve. I'm no physician, but this might be a good place to begin looking, so you could try icing down the elbow, forearm, wrist, hand, and/or finger, for 5 - 10 minutes at a time, and seeing if that helps. If you don't have pain, it's probably not related to any torn muscle, ligament, or tendon. You might have sort of squished the soft tissue of the finger so much that it's pinching a nerve, too. You could try massage, which is probably a good idea, anyway. When you stretch, though, don't overdue it on the finger, to the point that you cause the muscles of the forearm to make the finger ligiments pull; keep it light on that finger until the feeling comes back. Good luck.

Very good obsevation. From all of my medical training I gather this is very possible. Stretch often in between routes and problems. Massage your fingers too.

FIEND: Was climbing two days ago, and I got the same numbness on the side of one of my fingers. It is starting to go away. I just kept climbing. But it was awkward.

I can't remember one single climb where i haven't been bitten by something... i would happily take numbness over swollen fingers...
