Jim, I should have commented on you pics. Nice mod indeed - love the ring. It looks to be the best solution for grigri roped soloing that I've seen. A main requirement for me is to be able to climb and rap on the same device without hassle. Many don't share that requirement so other devices work for them.

Thanks guys for the concern over my health & safety , I am fully awear of the implications of what I am doing and take full responsability for my actions . I have always tended towards going solo , hanggliding , climbing , caving , but have mellowed and don't push it as much as I did when I was young @ Jim , Thanks for the photos , thats what I had in mind , with another small mod for a detachable handle to work the cam . How do you feel about going inverted on youre rig , will it catch with the tab removed and bungee mounted ? Xrix

I didn't mean any disrespect, after rereading that I realized it sounded rude, all I was saying is that it sounds like a generally bad idea in my opinion.

Iīll think about that one. Same as Joe I usually want to be able to lower so keep the handle for most stuff and donīt remove the flap completely. Upside down falling? I trail the dead rope (either flaked on the ground or loosely in a sack at the belay) and run it from the Grigri through a karabiner on a leg-loop. When you invert the rope has to bend 180° through the biner and (hopefully) gives enough friction to trigger the Grigri. With a bit of height the rope weight makes feeding worse so then I pull up a big loop of slack and clove hitch into a karabiner on the belay loop. Jim

Why don't you get a Petzl ASAP? Ideal.

Either you donīt know what we are talking about or you donīt know what you are talking about. Possibly both. The Petzl ASAP is NOT for taking lead falls and only makes the grade as an industrial fall arrestor when used with a energy absorber. Jim

wiki wrote: Why don't you get a Petzl ASAP? Ideal. Maybe you have this [free, lead] roped soloing discussion confused with one on TR soloing which this is not about. As Jim says, the Petzl ASAP is of no use in a roped solo system that I can see.

I was talking about top-roping. Sorry about that... Yes if it is used with a lanyard it must be a shock-absorbing lanyard but if it is attached directly to you, it does not need a lanyard (according to the instructions). The disadvantage is that it must be used with a semi static rope.
