Biner question

I purchased some CAMP USA Compact Oval Carabiners to rack gear on. They are great for that. My question regards their use for any other climbing purpose. The gate does not fully engage the keylock nose. The gate travel stops before the gate becomes parallel to the spine. The gate/nose engagement really looks compromised. Anyone agree/disagree? Opinions?

You sir brought a defective biner! Google images shows the biner with full gate function.

Not necessarily.
Due to the construction, the gate has to be a tad offset. But its hard to tell from a description alone if that is the case, or if there is indeed something wrong.

OP, can you post a picture?

Do they engage like this: http://www.mountainshop.net/...al-Carabi-17931T.jpg

If so, then you're OK. If not, then you may have a problem.

They do not look like that. The gate is not parallel and the nose is much more exposed. I'm exchanging them with the vendor. I'll post the result.

Yes. Very obvious!
How did you get the dots in the markup? Those make the code show up literally, so that it gets ignored by the forum software.
Normally people just fuck up a quote, or an url, but yours is new. Great work! Laugh

Back to the biner:
The links dont work for me. I get to a flicker login page. Do you have those pics private or something? Yoou can also attach them to your post here, no need for flickr.

But from your description you might indeed have a defective biner.

These don't look correct to me. They should be returned to the place you bought them.

A photo from the gate side, showing the key that is not aligned, might show what is blocking it. This may be an example of poor "quality control", since they were made that way and were shipped out. That has been a general complaint or anxiety about anything made particularly in China.

The gate and key are aligned fine. I should have compared it with other keylock biners I have. I just realized that all my other keylocks have an arc cut out of the back side of the nose to allow the nose to enter the gate completely.
The biners in question are missing this feature and that is what is preventing the gate from closing. Wish I could post pics but I returned them. And yes, they are made in China. Thanks for all the feedback.
