you could always use those machinest stamps and a hammer and stamp your name in stuff if you are worried about it. (tounge in cheek) I am SURE no one will forget to give them back...

do these seem to last longer than nail polish?

red/white!

Can't say, haven't tried nail polish though there's certainly enough in my house to paint my rack 5 times over.

I use these because they're easy.

ah.. i still have a bunch so i guess i'll go through that before trying something different.

I use electrical tape. comes in all kinds of colors, small width, clean, and can be marked with a sharpie.

+1 for electrical tape. makes for easy sorting of gear after.

Reflective vinyl tape. Works great for those evening epics. Laugh
It comes in lots of colors yet is not as durable as the colored electrical tape

I just drag mine across the garage floor, no one confuses theirs with mine, oh i've also heard that battery acid works well for marking them.

I've used just about every method listed above. These days, I don't mark my gear. Seems like everyone is marking their, so mine is the unmarked stuff.

For some reason, very few people seem to want to take my gear anyways.

I use nail polish. It works, but does get removed from the high wear surfaces fairly quickly. You can still see it in the lower wear areas, so it works.

And reapplying it periodically lets me go through all the gear, check it out, and satisfies some of the gear whore in me.

I do agree though that marking your gear isn't important. Out of the 5 or 6 people I climb with on a regular basis most of us don't have markers on our gear and I know exactly who has what... that's just me though.

See, not marking your gear isn't such a taboo practise afterall. Infact, if 80% of people mark their gear it makes it that much easier for me to spot mine.

Im w/ you kachoong. I dont mark my gear. I just know it really well, and always keep an eye on it. If Im climbing w/ someone elses rack, I'll check out their stuff to make sure that we don't have the exact same unmarked pieces.

It was rhetorical.

Anyway, going with two colors of route tape w/ a dab of super glue and a quick clear nailpolish coat for durability.

Stickyfingered climbers beware!

colored electrical tape works wonders, if not a colored sharpie :)

It seems like allot of you saying that you don't mark your gear are sport climbers with a few draws. I know my gear pretty good, but when you have 200+ beaners and you and you'r partners big wall racks have had an orgy in the haul bag I've found marking my stuff is a good idea.
