I'm thinking of going to New Zealand for 3 weeks for sport climbing. Any awesome places I should check out and any good spots to camp? Is Oct too cold and wet still?

Weather in October can be changeable. Temperatures should be ok although it might be a little cool in the shade at some of the south island crags. For sport climbing the main areas in the south island are Queenstown, Wanaka, and paynes ford. If you go to the south island you might be able to get some late spring skiing in. the fields down there just had the biggest dump they have had in years. Also in the south there is of course castle hill. heaps of bouldering and a number of good sport routes. plus there are a number of club ski fields around there. In the north island there is some good sport climbing in the Waikato especially around wharepapa south have a look at: http://www.freeclimb.co.nz/ some of the guides are a little out of date. some of the routes have been rebolted. my favourite area is probably the queenstown/wanaka area. easiest place to get hold of guide books is: http://alpineclub.org.nz/shop a couple of good websites are http://www.climb.co.nz/ http://climbnz.org.nz/
