Heya, I live 1/2 way between Butte and Whitehall and it is totally badass as far as climbing goes. I work in Bozeman though and I do not reccommend living in Butte, it sucks, it's dead, there are NO jobs, houses are shitty, and the people are usually gay.

The climbing though...Ohhhh the climbing the area holds...I totally think you should move to the general area. Rent is cheap in Whitehall and you are 15 minutes away from thousands of routes and problems. Feel free to e-mail me with any other questions man. bbordhead13@msn.com ~Stoney

Take all the cheap shots you want, people. I came here from "Paradise", and don't regret it one bit. By the way, you folks with license plates starting with 3,4,5,6, &7 stand out like the obnoxious posers you try so hard not to be. You can't hide, even with the "transplant" plates (no identifying county) you think allows you to blend in with the locals. Heads up if you come to the Humbugs or Batholith to recreate, because we aren't inviting YOU to climb here. I have met dozens of "real" climbers (from all over) who appreciate "ALL" that Montana has to offer, and respect them in the utmost. Everbody else who feels they need to slander, mock and ridicule locals (whatever the reason) should just get in line at their local coffee-shop and order up: one "transplant noob" TO GO!

Montanans like to rag on Butte, every one knows its full of drunk Irish . ..
But in my experience it is a fun town to visit, there are plenty of places that I would not live well before Butte makes that list. I can not comment of the job market and such but the climbing in the area is good.
I really like the humbug area and Holmstake pass area. Evan with my poser 6 plate I can't fault Butte for being a good place to move to.

p.s. Kevin, Allenspure has been a great climbing area , I have really enjoyed all the work that has gone in there.
