I am into El Cap, for the most part it's all climbing is to me. I have done East Butt, Zodiac, North American, New Dawn, Nose, Triple Direct, Sheild, and Muir. Wanted to know what bata or things anyone had to say about either Lurking Fear or the Tangerine????????Going July 4th so any info would be nice......

Personally, no, but Chris Mac answered my question on a different topic, so he'll probably have some more beta for you besides what's in the book. Email him through his site, www.supertopo.com

I haven't done the Trip. Lurking Fear has a lot of fun free climbing on it if your are solid up to hard 10's (including WIDE). The 5.10 A0 variation is more A0 than 5.10 though. The flake is more classic and you'll get to penji! Be able to get to the 10th pitch in a day to avoid hauling a ledge. The hauling up top sucks.

El Cap in July? You're going to get cooked. Increase your water rations and don't be surprised if you drop fifteen pounds on the wall (wall-climber's weight loss program).

And don't worry if you drop anything important or make any mistakes - God will save you...

Why don't you up the ante a bit? You've got a pretty good resume going - why do a Trade Route? I would recommend you do something a little harder - either Sunkist or Pacific Ocean Wall. Both are better routes than the Trip or Lurking Fear, and both have shorter approaches, although the climbs are longer. Take LOTS OF WATER in July!

I think you'll have a really good trip. The route is in the shade for a lot of the day, but you'll cook in the afternoons...none of the aid is as hard as on Zodiac, and a lot more free. Don't pay any attention to the 'hey dude go solo Reticent Wall' blowhards...LF is worth doing. It doesn't need a lot of pins, has nice features, decent hauling, and doesn't reek of foul things. Plus, you get some great exposure, and don't have the Green Dragons coming by to say Goodnight to you.
