Well, cerikpete and I are home as well. And we briefly considered heading back down.

In a couple words, It was FREAKING AWESOME.

We arrived Thursday, noonish. And got a couple climbs in before a freak thunderstorm sent everyone running for shelter. We waited it out in the parking lot, and then schlepped all our stuff up the trail (long and steep) in a steady rain. And complained the whole way (or I did anyway). We got up to the deluxe cabin accomodations, got dry and a beer, and hung around meeting people (djmeat, coach, farasnyl10, cass, pornstarr, djmclimber, betaben, katydid, jafarr, amanda, tom, pfc-monty, the boys from ohio whose names I didn't catch but who were awesome anyway, pete, brian, eric, traddaddy, annie who we already knew, her kids ashley and andrew, and various others who I haven't forgotten except for their names). We were well fed, and turned in early, it had been a long day.

Friday we got up early and headed into town with a big group to have breakfast at a little restaurant. It was fabulous, and didn't last very long, we were starving. We headed back up the mountain, intending to do the via ferrata. We looked for fossils, and found a couple, which I was pleased about. And then jafarr, amanda, cerikpete and I headed up to the via ferrata. EVERYONE should do this. It was awesome. The exposure is extreme...but once you get there, you'll love it. I heard Amanda screaming once because of the exposure, and asked jafarr if she was ok...he nonchalantly said "oh, yeah, the view is just breathtaking is all." :) When I got up there, I saw what she was screaming about. You'll have to go to see it. :)

Yesterday (saturday), we headed out to climb once the morning chill was a bit lessened, and hit the South Pillar for awhile. Met charley, and climbed a bit with him, jafarr, tom, amanda, and the ohio boys. Broke in a new rope while we were at it. Stu dropped by briefly as well. Unfortunately we had to leave early to get home to recover, and are now back off Stu's mountain.

Thanks go out to everyone who made it possible, it was an amazing experience! Especially Anne and Stu. You guys ROCK! We are totally going back sometime this summer.

Everyone up there was great, and I hope to climb with y'all again sometime. We made some friends for a lifetime I hope, and if you ever get the chance to hang with jafarr and amanda, do it, they're awesome people.

d'oh.

I was *supposed* to give a guy from DC a lift to Nelson on Friday, but at the absolute last minute he bagged it and so I left Saturday morning with pattray headed for [Seneca|Nelson]. We got to Yokum's for the usual bathroom break and decided that since there was no one at Seneca, we might as well hit that first. "We'll just hit Nelson a little later..."

Well, long story short, we kept bumping into people we knew and the day kept ticking by, and we came down after nightfall from The Burn and Sunshine. We had said we'd meet folks at the Front Porch and then proceed over to Nelson, but the Front Porch was closed and the Italian Pizza Palace was open...

Alls I can say is, I'll be up at Nelson plenty of times this summer, hope to see some of you (not least Stu) there. Probably at least one time with Adam and Karen in tow. If I didn't have to work today I'd have been there, but, such is life.

It sounds like everyone had a great time, hopefully the Preserve's future will be more or less assured by the good word amongst all y'all. Cheers,

--t

Ok,,I dont know where to start but I wish I was still down there instead of typing on my lap top. Im sorry I took off without saying good bye but I knew if I hung out I would end up climbing and would have not left till sunday and the 13 hour ride was hanging on me, besides I like those alpine starts. I met some of the best people in a long time, I didnt have one bad moment and I would like to get together with all of you again. I hope this thing is an annual event. Dennis I had a blast climbing with you, it was good put up Mojo's Menace with a new climbing partner. I hope you get up here this summer, we can do some classic stuff up here. And who knows,,you might find an FA, (big laughs). Thanks to all the people who brought the awesome food we ate. Alot of people put in some big effort and it was apprieciated. Pornstar, Betaben, Katydid, Caas, Coach and the bull riders, Djmeat, Curt, Anne and her kids, The New Yorkers, the Ohio boys, Wisconsin, Jullian, Eric, The breakfast burito guy, the lady with the stong coffee, Jesus, Howitzer, The awesome spagetti sauce guy, Florida,(where that helmet boy), Jerry Garcia, Sarah, and I know Im forgeting people but Im bad with names. Special thanks to Stu and Captin Prozac. If you need any beta on that shower let me know, I will give you my phone number if you need it. I would like to go back this year in may or june, if anybody else does maybe we could hook up. I think this place has alot to offer and Im glad to have been there to see it. The Via Ferrata is the $h*%. I had a great time on that thing. Im am old school like pornstar, I have to go to the photo shop to get mine but Im doing that monday night. It took me 4 hours to empty my blazer out and take care of stuff, the only thing left is to clean the oozefest mud off my boots, mabey later. Any way, I hope to keep in touch with you all and take care.

Oh, one other thing. When I left saturday morning I got stopped by two WV state troopers as I was pulling out. I thought great a 13 hour ride is gonna start off like this. This big guy came to the window real slow like and said,,,good mornin, where you off to so early? So I say, I was at Nelson rocks for a week doing some climbing and camping with friends. He says,,alittle cold to be rock climbin aint it. I say yeah but we toughed it out. So he goes back to his car and talks to his partner for a long time. When he came back he said every thing seemed ok except, its saturday and the weather is great, so why are you in such a hurry to leave. So I say, well I got a long ride and have to get going early. He passed me my license and leans in the window and looks me in the eye and says,,,,,,dont you boys do anything like this again,,,ya hear.

LOL I know that sleep deprivation feeling, I drove all the way back to Canada and could have used my "abandonee" for a break. So Kate, tell me how you got home.

So my FA was just the first, that's so cool. I want to hear that you did yours Anne :) How about telling the story behind the route name for "I Weighted All Weak".

Ahh how I wish I was there to see the other FA's and participate in the further high jinks.
Anyone want to hear how I consoled myself with some topless ice climbing and beers yesterday

bryan, stu and i were about to do a first ascent of a new sport route when then storm hit...i abandonded my partners..to get my kids and the "newbies" off the rock, when i rounded to fin, cass had my kids half way to stu's truck and katydid was screaming orders at everyone else...those chicks rock..unfortuntaly with BAD planning, gear sure did suffer that day...but with everyone's help we recovered our stuff and dried to ropes out in the beautiful weather we had the whole rest of the week..all in all the weather WAS PERFECT!!!!!!!
