The palm side of my fingers is a bit sore, feels almost like a bruise. I don't notice it much while climbing, but when I try to squeeze something that is thin or if they come in contact with an edge and I have to put weight on them they hurt a little bit (example, opening refrigerator door).

I've been icing them and it seems to help a bit...

Is it just a bruise or is it somthing more serious?

Your probably just getting calluses(sp?). I used to get that in the same spot on my hands and on my fingers.

sounds like you are developing calluses. You must be climbing in the gym on big overhung holds

I had a little bit of this recently...well, i still have it. One of my fingers got bruised/swollen and it made the palm a bit sore as well. I went to the doc and she said to take a week or so off climbing, continue finger strengthening exercises, and 3 ibuprofen every 6 hrs. Perhaps you need a rest. I would go to the doc if the pain gets worse/unbearable, or it's really swollen, etc. I also talked to an almost-RN and she said if it is only bruised, no need to take a break from climbing- unless bad pain accompanies it....use your best judgement and if you think you should, contact a professional.
Hope and pray you, me, and anyone else who has injuries, heals and can be climbing hard ASAP!

i agree, probably just callouses, i've had similar experiences. Usually goes away after a couple days. I did a really weird thing to my finger once. I had a lot of pressure on it on a hold, and it popped a vein out of place or something, cause I had this vein like right up against my skin where there wasnt usually one. It was kinda throbbing too, really weird. This went away eventually too, thank god.

if the skin is sore, dont worry, if the joints are, take a rest.

Umm, doesn't sound like callouses to me. I think you would probably realize if you were just building callouses! I think psalmadventurer has the right idea. You probably need to stregthen your tendons by working with putty or some other finger training device.
