In reply to: How long can you hold your breath? Long enough to take a drag off a cigarette. Why would you need to hold your breath any longer then that?

Never timed it BUT I have picked up sand in 60 ft of water. and I have bowed to my friend no longer with us.......God Bless You Maricio..... 130 ft verified with his watch. Awesome, also I have run out of air at 100 ft but thats another story. Maybe for the Baked Jake tales! Ho'o Mau. Bill

Underwater: i'm somewhere around 2:30, but i'd like to push that higher. it's only beginning of swim season so i'm outta shape. I've gotta try the 4laps thing....wonder if I could make it. when you say laps it that 25yards, meters, or the width of the pool? Bench: max at 180 over Spring Break; I know, I should get to the gym more.

Diving with SCUBA is like hiking with a leafblower. If you can be silent underwater, especially in California, the ocean is a whole different place.... worth the time to learn.

It surprises me how many of you guys and girls dive. I love to free dive too..... did a heap while I lived on the Red Sea becoming a dive guide.... in my spare time I used to free dive with a weight belt down to check out the other divers, monster napolean wrasse, turtles, morays etc.... after a minute at 20 meters the intro divers would be flailing around pointing at me, sucking up their 12 litre tanks and I'd be there hovering, no sound.... no movement.... I'm jealous that you are going to Belize.... Enjoy!..... It's been a year since I breathed compressed air....

For you FL folks. Gennie Springs around Lake City area is a fun and quick weekend dive spot. Bring a flashlight for the caves. :)

Many moons ago, at around 17, I held my breath for 3 mins. Not now. Maybe 1 min 20 seconds these days.

Looks like 1:45 at 6000ft. and over 2 minutes at 500ft. elevation. Cold water seems to help prolong the time. So you guided on the Red Sea, kachoong? Out of Sharm El Sheik maybe? I dove there once in 1986, but my dad was diving there for three years straight around that time. We dove on the "Yolanda" and I think Ras Mohammed. Great place! The Hilton back then had a crappy generator that would go out in the evening, making you have to sleep in a chair at the pool. I would have preferred a tent.

In reply to: Many moons ago, at around 17, I held my breath for 3 mins. Not now. Maybe 1 min 20 seconds these days. Is that 17 moons exactly? In my opinion, having done heaps of skin diving, anyone who can hold their breath in a static position for longer than two and half minutes is doing fcuking awesome! You either need genetic ability or years of training or have some wierd low blood pressure thing amd meditational frame of mind. I found I stayed under longer by sinking down to depth with 14lbs (Red Sea saltwater), usually to around 60 feet and staying there for a while before using my energy to get to the surface.... when you're down there, the surface looks a hell of way up.... and having something to distract you, like huge fish and stuff, keeps your mind off the fact you're an air breather....
