I live in Vermont and I haven't heard anything yet. Will post a message if I hear anything. Haven't had much ice to climb.

I think that it was in the Alps, actually. I saw an article in the paper a couple days back, it was a couple of Europeans, I believe. As you said, the whole sheet gave away as they were traversing or something. The article made it sound more like they were just doing general mountaineering; not purely ice-climbing. I may be totally wrong. Let me know if I am.

Do you know where at in the Alps? Was it the Dolemites? I've climbed a couple of times in the Dols. It was incredible! Hey vbrgclimber, you said there were boulders in Va Beach area, where at? I live in Hampton and am looking for something close and outside.

cedar just go to your local gym they should sell guide books for the local area. I know there is one in Va beach I dunno about in Hampton though. Also your local outdoor outfitter should have the local guide book. matt

I've seen that Ron Willard guy around. Damn shame. I guess he got hit by a falling chunk of ice. head injuries. I'll remember to talk to the mountain gods in his behalf.

Like 10 people die every session in the Alps it's a sad fact of climbing. You can the most experienced climber in the world...but ya never know when a rock fall is gunna hit ya. Rough with the smooth. Do you guys in America read stuff by Joe Simpson (touching the void being the more famous... but This Game of Ghosts & Dard shadows falling shine a real light on the real dangers of alpine climbing!!!!!!

Here in the Canadain rockies, 2 people have died ice climbing so far, two guys were rapping off a single V-thread and it pulled. This summer two other guys died rapping off a single bolt on HaLang peak. Both parties were very experienced climbers. The other day me and my partner were climbing and he only did up the velcro on his waist best, when he got to the top and leaded back me heard a ripping sounds and realized his mistake, weve been climbing for a long time. This just comes to show that cheaking is not just for beginers. Most people that get killed are Over confident, just because a Bolt or V-thred has never ripped on you before, doesnt mean it wont this time.
