In reply to: In reply to: i may go, if i am not in ghana at the time. i won't be going to rumney however - how far from jules place to somewhere like cathedral or whitehorse? an hour fifteen, and it's about the same to pawtuckaway (in case anyone was wondering) Hey Andrew, Cannon is maybe just a little over a half hour away if you are going to make it to NH. Maybe I could be a passenger boy, you could flail up the easy pitches, and we could get that traddie ropegun, Amber, to lead the scary stuff  Send me a PM if you are going to make it and I'll find some rum'n'red bull or a couple bottles of beer

I think someone told me that it was moved back to columbus day, I'm too lazy to read the whole thread so as long as this is the case I will be there (you have to promise not to make fun of my non-climbing ability)

YES!!! I agree that earlier is better. Count me in and if we want to centeralize on camping, I might be able to arrange a spot to camp West of Rumney near Canaan, NH. This is private land and there would be no charge and all we'd have to do is pratice leaving no trace. Handjammer48

What if we were to do a gathering on Labor Day and then another on Columbus Day? Those are the only two weekends I'd be able to go, but if we did both of them we'd probably be able to get most people up here (although not all at the same time.) Yea or nay?

I have to move into school labor day weekend. It is the only day I'm allowed to move in, I cant move in later and I have to be ready for classes on Tuesday. If you do one then I might pop in for the monday, columbus day is definitely cool.

I'm loving the idea of two gatherings... it seems like half of us can only come labor day, the other half only columbus day... i'd love to come, it'd be cool i think to chill with you all there, but i can probably only do it labor day. as far as i know i should be up there that wknd. like i said, drop me a PM like in July if you wouln'd mind, once all the details are worked out...

Well, as far as Los Diegos are concerned, If I am back whenever it happens, you can count us in. Doubt that it will happen but I'll keep my never-painted-blue toes crossed. Jell-O wrestling? I need to get in on this action. Miss you guys! -D D-

In reply to: i may go, if i am not in ghana at the time. i won't be going to rumney however - how far from jules place to somewhere like cathedral or whitehorse? Cathedral & Whitehorse are well within range, but there's quite a lot of adventure climbing that's closer -- Cannon is the big one, and Jon Sykes has a whole guidebook full of medium & small crags around Franconia Notch, none of them sport areas like Rumney. Also, the Kancamagus Highway crags (in Ed Webster's guidebook) are on the way between Rumney and Cathedral/Whitehorse. Much good stuff there. It's perverse, but you can actually "go tradding" at Rumney if you're motivated enough -- there are a handful of interesting routes that have not yet been retrobolted. Sometimes I seek those out. Not on a weekend, though. Rumney on weekends is a very social experience. I hear that the black flies were quite social there yesterday.

Yeah, "social"... Did anyone ever see the movie Mosquito? With the giant mutant mosquitoes that came from the nuclear swamp or something like that... that's what our mosquitoes are like. maybe ours are a little bigger though.

If there's going to be a trad excursion, I'd love to go. I'm seeking out more following experiences as I'm still not confident with my pro placement skills. So, if there's a need for a second, keep me in mind. :)

In reply to: hmmmmm...labourday eh? What's the cliff traffic like on long weekends and that one in particular? Don't worry about crowds, just make sure you go when crazylikeafawkes doesn't. The secret to no crowds is to seek the dark side... no not that one, that crag will be busy. Seek the trad routes and line ups won't be a problem. DonD: I surely hope you and da moose  can make it. T'would be truly good to see you guys again. If you can't make it then send rottenice and sraD in your place.

Seek the trad routes and line ups won't be a problem. It's true, when every other route on Waimea is gettin' dogged to death, there won't be anyone trying to lead That Crack. And when the Meadows look like Birthday Night at the gym, there will be no queue below Misdemeanor and Tunnel Zone. Probably no chalk on 'em, either. Adventure beckons.
